Obituary: Wayne Coleman 

The Optical Suppliers’ Association is sorry to announce the recent death of Wayne Coleman, known to many for his nearly 40 year career in the optical instrument business.

Wayne, 70, worked for Birmingham Optical Group and latterly, Hanson Instruments,

As his former colleague, Chris Tyler, said, “Wayne had countless friends in optics and mentored many who went on to have impressive careers.  He was a cheeky chappie who always had a smile on his face, and he will be sorely missed.”

Wayne became Instrument Manager at Birmingham Optical in 1980 and moved from Cardiff to Birmingham with his family, as his son Kristen, explained, “Wayne worked at Birmingham optical for over 30 years, and it meant a lot to him, particularly important were the people and there are many stories about their adventures together.

“In 2012, he departed from Birmingham Optical but stayed in the industry and started his new role as Sales Director at Hanson instruments, continuing there until his retirement in 2017.”

Wayne leaves his wife Andrea and children, Ann Marie, Kristen, Amy and Laura, along with six grand children.
