BCLA looking for ‘inspirational’ new deputy academic chair to shape world-leading educational programme

The BCLA is looking for a new deputy academic chair with a passion for optometric education and research to “inspire a new era” for the organisation.

Following in the footsteps of esteemed academic, Professor James Wolffsohn, the successful candidate will take responsibility for a valuable part of the BCLA’s educational activities.

BCLA chief executive, Luke Stevens-Burt, said: “This is a rare opportunity to make a valuable contribution within the optometric landscape and shaping one of the most pre-eminent conference programmes in this space.

“Our new academic chair will lead, shape and deliver our academic provision, with a specific focus on our highly prestigious conference programme as we grow our reputation as a global leader in contact lens and anterior eye education.

“This is an opportunity to inspire a new era for the BCLA and support our growth and development ambitions through delivery of educational activities within the contact lens and anterior eye specialism.

“Professor James Wolffsohn has made an incredible contribution to the BCLA over many years and we look forward to the successful candidate building on this stellar work and creating their own legacy for a new generation of eye care professionals around the world.”

Main duties as part of the role will be to lead, shape and deliver the conference programmes with the relevant committees, particularly for the BCLA Clinical Conferences and BCLA Asia.

The deputy academic chair will also offer guidance and advice to BCLA office and council about scientific and academic elements within contact lenses and anterior eye such as education for members including online certificates and associated assessments.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills to coordinate and deliver operational direction and a passion for improvement and high-quality educational outcomes.

To apply please submit a current CV and cover letter (no more than two sides of A4) outlining why you are interested in this role, what you will bring to the role from your experience and how you believe the BCLA can continue to be a global leader in contact lens and anterior eye education
