Opchat News sponsors three thought provoking lectures at 100% Optical 

For the second successive year Opchat News published by Primary Health Net is arranging three lectures on the Saturday and Sunday of the exciting event at London Excel.

The lectures will be on the Optical Suppliers Association (OSA) stand close to the Main Catwalk.


“As last year we have selected speakers who provide a fresh understanding of subjects that provide new opportunities in our business and optical networking” said Bob Hutchinson Editor at Opchat News . ” The speakers we engage have provided us with exciting news over the year whether it be with news of exciting new products on our products sector page, a better understanding of the services available to independent opticians to improve business or an insight into the Optical Community providing great networking opportunities.”

First up on the Saturday at

10.15 – 11.15– Just Starting or running a business and need some answers from Experts, then this hour will provide an opportunity for face to face discussion with highly acknowledge experts in their field. 

 Join us on the OSA stand at 5 stations to meet with experts that can help you. You will get a maximum of 10 minutes at each station. 

It is recommended that you register your attendance at 10.15 on the Saturday ahead of the event to ensure we have allocated a space for you.

    Samantha is a specialist credit broker to the optical industry with her knowledge built up over years of working with the profession

     

  • Station 5: Bob Hutchinson, Eros Business Consulting, Budgets and sales forecasts, looking at Stock control in a more productive and profitable way and of course De minimis and Partial Exemption.

    Bob Hutchinson is well known both to practice owners and industry for providing easily adoptable solutions and his knowledge on VAT remains long past his success in chairing the meetings with HMRC which eventually secured the return of over 650 million pounds to Opticians.

11.30 – 12.15 -“Controlled tyrosine release from a contact lens as a new approach to myopia: the metabolic response to topical administration of ocular supplement”

Daniele Bazzocchi , General Manager Safilens
Daniele is an experienced General Manager at Safilens with a demonstrated history of working in the medical device industry.

The lecture will discuss the following:

The lecture will outline the current situation with progressive myopia and the innovative solutions that will be provided by a new contact lens material, recently launched. A generic-based presentation on the management of myopia, and evaluation of tyrosine and dopamine levels in the tear film prior to and after the wearing of a tyrosine releasing contact lens and its effect in myopia control

Daniele Bazzocchi  received his Physics degree from the University of Bologna, as well as BA in Foreign Languages and Literature. He has been in the contact lens industry for over 14 years, involved in the development and production of contact lenses and solutions as well as in the regulatory aspects of such activities.

As head of the development team he specialized in clinical and medical evaluation of products with intensive experience in medical device registration (FDA, ANVISA, MOHAP and others).

Daniele also actively participates in teaching workshops for DO and Optometrist regarding contact lens characteristics and fitting techniques and has presented and lectured in numerous national and international meetings and congresses.

14.15 to 15.00 What’s Happening at the International Opticians Association?

Speaker Fiona Anderson President IOA

This session will provide an overview of the International Opticians Association outlining memberships stats, who is eligible to join and accomplishments. A taster of the upcoming summit in Singapore in April 2023 will also be given.


Fiona studied full time and then entered her pre -reg with an independent group. After 25 years with them – first as practice manager, then as accessories buyer, then area manager followed by group training manager and having studied for and gained a business degree along the way, she decided to leave and became a locum for 2 very happy years. Fiona is now a partner in an independent practice. She became more involved with ABDO about 18 years ago – first as an examiner then in optical politics and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2010 having recently finished her term of office on the ABDO Board after10 years’ service. She is currently on the Court at the WCSM and President of the IOA.
 

Fiona will be available after the lecture to chat about joining the IOA.
