Monday 4th December, 5.30-8.15pm
at 1 Wimpole Street, London, W1G 0AE
The Spectacle Makers’ Lecture this year focuses on one of the most pressing issues in vision care today.
It is predicted that by 2050 half of the world’s population will be myopic, which has led to increased attention on both lifestyle factors and genetics as well as substantial investment in lens technology and therapies to help control the development of myopia.
Professor David Mackey AO, MBBS, MD, RANZCO, FRACS is an internationally renowned genetic ophthalmologist based at the Lions Institute,Centre for Ophthalmology and Visual Science, University of Western Australia. This lecture provides an exciting opportunity for scientists, manufacturers and practitioners to hear him speak about his research, the linkage between myopia and glaucoma, the protective nature of exposure to sunlight and open space in childhood and debates about the use of low concentration atropine (otherwise known as deadly nightshade).
The lecture will take place at 1 Wimpole Street (the Royal Society of Medicine), Marylebone, W1G 0AE, Monday 4th December from 5.30pm. Tea and coffee will be available before the lecture begins at 6pm, finishing with a short formal Q&A session.Discussions will continue informally in a networking reception from 7.15-8.15pm.
