Tear Ingredients: A factor in comfortable Lens Wear

Webinar will look at ideal tear ingredients for comfortable contact lens wear

A BCLA webinar will look at why maintaining healthy tear film is important for successful contact lens practice and keeping drop-out rates low.

Delivered by Dr Debarun Dutta and Rachel Casemore, the Alcon-sponsored session will examine reasons why a healthy tear film is essential for maintaining ocular health and avoiding dry eye symptoms.

The session, entitled ‘Ideal tear ingredients for comfortable contact lens wear’ will be held from 6.30pm on Wednesday 29 March.

Dr Dutta, a tenured lecturer at the Optometry School at Aston University, Birmingham, said: “The webinar is designed to detail diagnostic methods of tear film and ocular surface important for comfortable contact lens wear and will discuss the key tear film parameters to monitor during contact lens wear.

“We will look at the range of acceptable limits of tear film ingredients and their clinical implications as well as staged management and treatment options and future developments and opportunities.”

Dr Dutta is a council member of the BCLA and is involved in didactic and pre-clinical face-to-face training for optometry students focused on contact lenses and optometric clinical practice. He works as a consultant to industry partners, has published more than 50 peer review and 20 professional articles, and has lectured in various countries worldwide.

Rachel Casemore is an optometrist who worked in independent practice for 24 years before leaving in 2020 to pursue a full-time research PhD at Aston. Alongside her current research activity, investigating the tears for biomarkers of Dry Eye Disease, Rachel works in a team of optometrists who examine patients attending Aston’s Specialist Dry Eye Teaching Clinics. Her particular interest is Dry Eye Disease in young adults.

The session is open to all. CPD accreditation has been applied for.
