Newmedica collaborates with ABDO on dispensing optician training
Ophthalmology provider Newmedica has partnered with the Association of British Dispensing Opticians to deliver a training programme for dispensing opticians.
The inaugural continuing professional development (CPD) event in the series for registered ABDO members was held at Newmedica Bury St Edmunds.
Titled ‘Seeing Eye to Eye – Overcoming Challenges in Patient Care’, the session was delivered by Usman Hussain, a consultant ophthalmologist at Newmedica Suffolk. Thirty-five dispensing opticians attended the session.
‘As a leading provider of ophthalmology services to NHS and private patients, the partnership with ABDO forms part of Newmedica’s commitment to training of colleagues across the eye health sector,’ says Jag Singh, head of clinical proposition at Newmedica.
‘We recognise that dispensing opticians play a key role in the cataract journey of patients. So, it’s great to be collaborating with ABDO to deliver this CPD programme for dispensing opticians at Newmedica clinics across England.‘
Sue Bennett, CPD operations manager at ABDO, says: ‘This three-year agreement is an amazing opportunity for our members to view the state-of-the-art equipment Newmedica have within their practices whilst gaining interactive CPD points.
‘We will be offering evening tours with CPD at 15 Newmedica clinics throughout the UK, during 2025-2027. Details of the 2025 venues can be found within the CPD news page on the ABDO website.’
Upcoming CPD events planned for ABDO registered members include sessions at Newmedica clinics in Oxford, Newcastle, Shrewsbury, and Leicester.
