MHRA fees consultation on proposed increase

Consultation on proposals for changes to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency’s statutory fees.

There is a proposal to increase MHRA registration fees which we also believe will now be annual from £100 to £240 in the MHRA Consultation.

This was highlighted at a recent meeting of the OSA.

Whilst the figure was not seen as a significant cost to industry, albeit unwelcome, from our (Opchat News) standpoint the raised cost is just another burden on practices especially for independents just opening up new practices.

The compliance thresholds for NHS England contracts require registration not only for those practices with small glazing units but also for those opticians now using the system of “springing in lenses” that have been supplied profile cut by manufacturers.

We think this is just another burden to independent practice  owners starting out, adding to the already  huge set up costs of equipment and then the addition of GOC registration, professional body/PI membership, sharp/minim collection contracts, ICO data registration and now a 140% increase in MHRA registration.

Whilst the OSA will highlight the increase as unwelcome particularly while the MHRA has dragged its feet in amending regulations post Brexit we think our professional bodies and practitioners should be voicing their opinion loudly within the consultation period.
