IP education session shares ‘gems’ of knowledge
A group of independent prescribers teamed up for a day of lectures and workshops aimed at equipping eye care practitioners with knowledge they can use in real-world scenarios.
Dr Keyur Patel, clinical director of Tompkins, Knight & Son Optometrists in Northampton, arranged the second annual meeting of more than 60 fellow independent prescribing opticians at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham on Sunday, April 27.
He said: “This group brings independent prescribers together so we can all benefit from each other’s experience, share ideas and ensure we are all acting in a joined-up way that ensures the best treatment for our patients.
“The emphasis was on learning, but in a relaxed and welcoming environment. It was informal but educational. I’m confident everyone went home armed with a little gem of knowledge they didn’t know that morning.
“Independent prescribing has grown enormously in recent years, and it’s easy to see the positive impact it is having across the profession. Patients are enjoying better access to treatment, and it’s saving time and money across the health service.
The event brought together a network of eye care professionals to discuss treatment pathways for a variety of conditions, with sessions delivered by a wide range of industry professionals including Alan Hawrami, Irinder Khakha, Hannah Thomas, Bhavina Patel, Pritesh Patel, Gajan Singh Seehra, Elion Hyseni and David Fleischmann.
The event was sponsored by Topcon, Body Doctor, Kestrel Ophthalmic, NuVision and Ophthalmic Supplies and Solutions.
