HOYA Vision Care launches Sensity 3

The next generation of photochromic lenses built for durability and almost 2X faster fade back speed

Recognising growing consumer demand for photochromic lenses that can withstand daily use while delivering fast, seamless light adaptation, HOYA Vision Care created the Resilience Index to elevate how performance and durability are measured[1].

HOYA Vision Care today announced the launch of Sensity 3, the latest innovation in its well-established Sensity photochromic spectacle lens range, available in Brown and Grey.

As the next generation of photochromic lenses, Sensity 3 delivers exceptional durability and faster light adaptation, thanks to its superior resilience and significantly improved fading-back speed. Unlike other photochromic lenses, Sensity 3 offers enhanced durability that withstands the rigors of daily active use, to provide a convenient all-round solution and UV protection for longer1,[2].

The photochromic category is growing nearly twice as fast as the overall optical market, driven by an ageing population, increasingly active lifestyles, and heightened consumer demand for eye protection, health, wellbeing, personalisation, and value enhancement[3]. Yet despite this growth opportunity, significant barriers remain. Recent global research reveals that 7 out of 10 patients are sensitive to glare, yet only 12% of wearers globally own a photochromic pair of spectacle lenses[4]. Additionally, fade-back speed when returning indoors remains among the top barriers when considering photochromic lenses[5].

Sensity 3 addresses these challenges head-on, combining breakthrough performance in light adaptation with industry-leading resilience as measured by HOYA Vision Care’s proprietary Resilience Index, a new standard for photochromic durability. HOYA Vision Care’s Resilience Index consolidates results from both scratch resistance and photochromic ageing tests. It provides a clear, single score that reflects the overall durability and longevity of photochromic lenses.

We recognise that consumers shouldn’t have to compromise between convenience and durability,” said Andy Sanders Professional Services Director, HOYA Lens UK. “With Sensity 3, we’re delivering on both fronts – providing faster light adaptation and superior resilience that maintains consistent performance. These photochromic lenses are designed to meet the needs of active individuals who demand performance from their eyewear, everyday wearers who move between light and dark environments, and older wearers with increased light sensitivity.”

Based on rigorous testing using the Resilience Index, Sensity 3 delivers exceptional performance across multiple elements. The lens is up to three times more durable, two times more scratch resistant and maintains the intended reaction speed and colour depth up to three times longer, compared to the other lenses on the market1.

Sensity 3 will be available in the UK market from 18th May 2026.
