DRY EYE MASK offers long-lasting relief at home.
Essilor Instruments brings long lasting relief for dry, tired eyes with the launch of a new innovative eye mask for patients to use from the comfort of their own home.
Activa Home Eye Mask by SBM Sistemi, which uses heated automatic massage technology, can be rented to patients and offered as an in-practice treatment.
The fully automated procedure heats and massages the eye lids generating heat of approximately 42 degrees for 15 minutes while applying a micro-vibration-based massage.
Paul Cumber, Essilor Instruments Director said: “Activa Home Eye Mask offers a new way for patients to relieve dry eye symptoms at home and helps independent optical practices expand their dry eye offering to improve patient satisfaction.
“The effectiveness of IRPL treatments such as TearStim can be enhanced by using the Eye Mask to help unblock the meibomian glands and give quicker, short-term relief, and IRPL can then be used to provide longer lasting benefits.
“By using the Activa Home Eye Mask, the patient can continue treatment at their own convenience in-between visits to the optician.”
How the mask works
The procedure produces controlled heat contributing to unclogging the debris of the meibomian glands on the edge of the eyelids and softening the secretions; and relieves swollen and irritated eyelids due to blepharitis, meibomian gland dysfunctions, styes and chalazion.
A recommended treatment plan would be to use the device once a week for four weeks. At the end of this first period, a session every two months is recommended to keep the benefits of the relief from eyelid discomfort.
With a fitted design, the user-friendly mask is soft, breathable and delicate on the skin.
Running a dry eye clinic
The launch supports Essilor’s current portfolio of dry eye equipment and when used alongside TearStim Dry Eye treatment and IDRA for diagnosing dry eye, complements the services needed to run a comprehensive dry eye clinic in-store.
Paul Cumber adds: “Dry eye is most certainly a growing area of opportunity for opticians and setting up a dry eye clinic will differentiate practices and add competitive advantage on the high street.
“More and more practices are recognising they need to provide dry eye services given the huge demand in the population across all demographics, albeit they are unsure how to go about it. Our business managers can help by providing return on investment examples, marketing materials and training to help with the initial set of their dry eye services.”
