Cantor & Nissel to close artificial eyes division.

Cantor & Nissel have announced that they have closed their Hemel Hempstead unit, which made artificial eyes, shells, and various animation projects.

“Business in this market has been difficult for some time, and now we need Medical Devices Regulation for the products it has become even more expensive to run.” Said David Cantor.

“Add on the fact that animation work is increasingly being done by 3D printing and the future was not looking favourable. On top of this Brexit means that bringing in samples, socket moulds, etc and returning to them with the new product was very complicated. No tariff codes exist for some items and customs held everything up.”

None of this work overlaps with Cantor & Nissel’s main business at Brackley so although a small number of customers will be disappointed the change will not affect the rest of the business and indeed strengthen their core business.

The company have referred old customers to laboratories in Europe who specialise in this work.
