WCSM announces 2022 request for Medals Submissions

WCSM announces 2022 request for Medals Submissions

The WCSM is now open to submissions for the Ruskell Medal and the Master’s Medal for 2022

Full details of both Bronze Medals, and online application forms, are now available on their website: Links below

The application period is much shorter than before. The closing date for applications is 6pm on Friday 15 August 2022.  The eligibility criteria have also changed this year.

The Master’s Medal continues to be aimed at people in the very first stages of their research career ie those currently studying for higher-level degrees or within 1 year of achieving a Doctorate.

The Ruskell Medal will continue to reward research which makes a significant difference to our understanding of vision. It is now limited to applicants with up to 5 year’s post-doctoral experience.  The restriction is designed to encourage progression from the Master’s Medal to the Ruskell Medal and then on to the Silver Fincham medal which will be relaunched later in the year to recognise achievement over a 5-15 year term.

The WCSM  recognise that most of those who are eligible for the Master’s Medal and the Ruskell Medal will be working as part of a team and there is therefore a new requirement for a contribution statement.

The Medals will be awarded at our Court Lunch in Apothecaries’ Hall in London on 5 October 2022.  The winners will be able to meet leading names and have the opportunity to develop networks across the eye health and sight loss sectors. Both Bronze medals come with a purse of £750 and the awards will be given as much publicity as possible.
