The Body Doctor scoops its second Queen’s Award for Innovation
The Body Doctor Ltd, manufacturer of The Eye Doctor range, has won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category for its Sterileyes patented antibacterial compresses used to treat dry eye disease, Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and blepharitis. The Sterileyes solution is clinically proven to reduce bacteria on the compress by 99.9% and is an integral component of Eye Doctor hot and cold compresses.
Now in its 56th year, the Queen’s Awards are the most prestigious accolades for UK businesses and are a globally recognised royal seal of approval for outstanding achievement.
The Body Doctor company first won the Queen’s Award for Innovation in 2016.
A statement from the award judges said: “It has been an exceptionally hard few years for businesses and this achievement is testament to the resilience you and your staff have shown through these unprecedented times.”
The Body Doctor Ltd is a family-run business founded in 2012. The vision of the company was, and continues to be, to devise, develop and supply innovative solutions that focus on promoting and optimising eye health. The Eye Doctor range features hot and cold compresses, eyedrops, biodegradable eyelid wipes, including tea tree and hayfever wipes and a new Premium Eye Health Food Supplement.
The company achieved a major milestone in the spring of 2021 when a patent was granted for the antibacterial shield Sterileyes, following five years of research and development with three independent laboratories.
The Body Doctor’s Managing Director, Sue Grant, said: “Any award is always very special, even more so when it is as prestigious as the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category. We are incredibly proud at receiving this recognition again. It is reflective of the hard work and dedication from the whole Body Doctor team to offer the very best products to our customers.
“This award for our patented technology, Sterileyes antibacterial shield on eye compresses recognises our ability to identify a problem no one thought existed and to solve it in a safe, cost-effective way.
“The Queen’s Award reinforces our belief in our vision for the future and is validation of what can be achieved by a company sticking to, and implementing, its key core values. The company is immensely proud to be able to be associated with the awards and to be able to use the esteemed Queen’s Award emblem for the next five years,” she concluded.
Backed by science and supported by experts in the medical field, including TV’s Dr Hilary Jones, The Body Doctor Ltd aims to raise awareness of eyecare and especially eye hygiene by delivering preventative solutions and treatments for common eye problems.
A representative from the company will be attending an awards reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by HRH The Prince of Wales on 12 July.
