Recycling initiative grows
A SCHEME that recycles glasses and contact lenses is being expanded by Specsavers after successful results in its community practices.
More than 45 tonnes of material have been recycled in the UK through the initiative so far, which saw collection boxes provided in Specsavers practices up and down the country last year. Now the scheme is being expanded to Specsavers’ support offices in Nottingham, Southampton and Guernsey.
‘The scheme offers a more sustainable solution by repurposing frames, contact lenses and contact lens packaging into useful products such as joinery boards and furniture. It keeps valuable resources in circulation for longer,’ says Sarah Koulloutas, Head of Sustainability at Specsavers.
Specsavers has linked up with recycling experts MYGroup to operate the scheme.
