Origins of dry eye disease to be subject of BCLA Presidential Address

The new President of the BCLA will deliver a tour of the past, present and future of dry eye disease during her Presidential Address in London.

Sarah Farrant
will use her Presidential Address at 30 Euston Square on Wednesday, 18 September to delve into the historical angles and origins of dry eye and ocular surface disease, including reviewing diagnosis and management through the ages.

Entitled ‘Standing on the shoulders of giants; the evolution of dry eye disease’ – the in-person lecture will explore the legacy research and development in this field and highlight how these improvements in understanding were translated and converted into viable clinical techniques.

Sarah will then review the ongoing barriers to setting up dry eye clinics and how the research and technology has evolved to give us the myriad options currently available. A consideration of current diagnostic and management technology as well as future potential directions will also be explored.

She said: “Being able to deliver a Presidential Address just a few months after taking on the role of leading the BCLA is a huge honour and I am looking forward to the chance to meet fellow eye care professionals, catch up with colleagues and welcome some of our new members.

“Being able to bring the profession together in-person at an event like this is hugely important and I can’t wait to welcome everyone to London. Learning from each other is a vital part of how we can continue to evolve and improve.”

A drinks reception will be held on arrival from 6.30pm before a one-hour lecture starting at 7.30pm. A further networking opportunity, complete with drinks and food, will be held from 8.30pm to 10pm.

One CPD point will be available for the lecture.
