OPTOVERSITY 2024 happens on Sunday 7 April online

Students and companies have just a few days left to sign up for the annual Optoversity Challenge optometry competition and charity fundraiser for  Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP), run by student training provider Out of the Box Optics.

Optoversity Challenge 2024 takes place online on Sunday 7th April 2024. Students from all years are invited to compete in a light-hearted competition against others in their year group – from optometry schools across the UK & ROI – with the chance to win some fantastic prizes.

Event times on 7th April
10am -11 am – online optical quiz for first year optometry students
11.30am -12.30pm – online optical quiz for second year optometry students
1pm -3pm – online optical quiz for third year optometry students. The four top scoring students will then go through to an OSCE-style competition to decide the final winner. This is a great opportunity for students to practice their OSCE skills or learn from others.

All student entrants are encouraged to take up the challenge and to raise some funds through sponsorship in the lead-up to the competition which will help Vision Care for Homeless People provide free sight tests and glasses to those experiencing homelessness.

Competing students will be from Anglia Ruskin, Aston, Bradford, City, Dublin Technical Institute, Huddersfield, Manchester, Plymouth, Ulster, University of the West of England.

Companies supporting with sponsorship or prizes so far are:

Birmingham Optical, College of Optometrists, FODO, HEINE,  Keeler, Optelec, Scope, Specsavers, Thea and Topcon.

‘Birmingham Optical are pleased to be able to donate a prize to Optoversity Challenge, this is a fundraiser close to our heart. We believe in giving back to our community, and your cause is truly impactful and deserving of support. Our team is thrilled to be able to contribute in some way to help make a difference in the lives of those in need’

‘FODO is delighted to support Vision Care for Homeless People for the eighth Optoversity Challenge student competition. It helps to support the charity, raises much-needed funds to tackle inequality, and supply eye checks and glasses to the homeless community through its annual fundraiser. We wish all the competitors the best of luck as they complete the challenges that Out of the Box has set.’
