OPTEGRA appoints new commercial Director

Leading eye hospital group Optegra welcomes Adam Cockley to its UK Leadership Team, as Commercial Director.

Adam, who has over two decades experience in healthcare, began his career with a degree in biology and then some years in biological research.  He explains that healthcare is part of his DNA, thanks to the inspiring medical careers of his parents.

Since then he developed a career in sales and marketing, working his way up the ranks of Diversey, managing an £18 million business which specialised in professional cleaning chemicals.

After 12 years at his previous company, Adam moved to Gama Healthcare as the Non-Acute Sales Director.  He established a new business unit to diversify their infection prevention efforts beyond hospitals.

Over his successful eight-year tenure at Gama Healthcare, Adam was promoted to Commercial Director. In this role he managed a £45 million business, including the NHS hospital segment, where he implemented new strategies to grow this business in a highly competitive post-Covid marketplace.

At Optegra, Adam, 47, will be leading on all sales initiatives and commercial activities to deliver business growth.  This includes launching a series of new NHS diagnostic clinics in regions surrounding our core hospitals, to help patients more easily access services closer to home.

He will also manage the Service Promotion Executive (SPE) team who work closely with community optometrists and GPs across the country to raise awareness of the NHS service available for their cataract patients at Optegra.

When asked what appealed about joining Optegra, Adam said: “After two decades across two employers, with a series of promotions, I feel it has been a great journey so far – and now I want to bring that experience to a service industry within the sector I love.

“To date I have worked with manufacturers who create products for healthcare professionals to use; it is exciting to now be working with a company that directly provides a service and impacts on patients’ lives.

“I enjoy creating high performing sales teams and developing people, so investing in the SPE team in terms of training and development is high on the agenda.  Developing this team is really where I get my energy; and I look forward to the challenge of developing strategies to approach the varied patient pathways across the country.

“As Commercial Director I am obviously very results focused, but also passionate to be working in the meaningful and worthwhile healthcare industry, assisting the company as they make a difference to peoples’ lives every day.”

Mat Pickering, Optegra UK Managing Director, said: “We are pleased to welcome Adam to the team as we continue to grow and reach out to more and more NHS patients.

“In an increasingly competitive environment, and the challenge of many varied patient pathways, it is vital that our commercial approach is aligned across the business as well as taking into account regional differences.  Adam has a strong proven track-record and we look forward to working alongside him.”

Adam lives in Cambridge with his partner and their 13-year-old daughter. In his free time he loves to travel, enjoying diving or snowboarding dependent on the holiday location, also reading, walking, aqua parks and a key interest is fly-fishing – he regards this as the most challenging sport he has ever done and would like to fish for England one day!

Ben Westcott from WRS (Westcott Recruitment Solutions) advised on the appointment.
