A new ophthalmic clinic is opening in Hounslow, dedicated to providing NHS cataract surgery for patients in West London
Optegra Eye Clinic West London will provide timely, convenient care for thousands of people. With one in three adults are diagnosed with cataract so there is a lot of demand for treatment.
The new clinic is part of Optegra Eye Health Care, a network of specialist eye hospitals and clinics across the UK and Europe that provide cataract and vision correction procedures.
Optegra consultant surgeon Mr Nick Glover will be leading cataract surgery at Optegra Eye Clinic West London and will be supported by clinic manager Nikki Kaur and optometrist Amardeep Bans.
Nikki says: “I am looking forward to developing the team to provide the best service and helping local patients in the area. There is a need for quick, accessible, and safe eyecare in the area, which is exactly what we will provide. We already work with many of the local optometrists in the community, but can now treat their patients even more locally, which is great news.”
The new clinic was officially opened by Hounslow Mayor, Councillor Karen Smith, who visited the clinic to tour the brand new facilities, and meet staff and patients. She said: “It is an honour to cut the ribbon and officially open Optegra Eye Clinic West London. Any steps to improve access to treatment, and especially with a company offering such excellent facilities and importantly, medical outcomes, is a welcome addition to our local community. There is a great sense of relief amongst the patients I met, as they can now access this sight-changing treatment both quickly, and on their doorstep.”
Whilst the clinic is new, many of the staff are either transferring from existing Optegra facilities or are already experienced in referring patients to Optegra for their treatment. This means the team are well placed to understand the needs of the local community and offer a more convenient service for people living in West and South London.
The clinic will feature latest surgical equipment and patients will benefit from five-star surroundings for their consultation and treatment. The clinic is also providing new jobs for local people, both administrative and clinical.
Richard Armitage, NHS Director for Optegra Eye Health Care, said: “We are already offering NHS cataract surgery at our North London facility in Colindale and also at Guildford in Surrey but our new clinic in Hounslow will give convenient access to treatment for those living in the West and South of London. We are working with the NHS to substantially reduce waiting times throughout the Greater London area.
“Optegra is a well-established network with five-star facilities and leading ophthalmic surgeons providing the highest standards of care. At this new clinic we are able to commit to treatment within just four-six weeks of referral, giving patients more choice in their treatment journey and allowing access to short wait times.
“Cataract patients simply need to ask their optician or GP to refer them to Optegra Eye Clinic West London and we look forward to welcoming them.”
