Newmedica’s investment in Bradford offers more choice for eye patients

OPHTHALMOLOGY provider Newmedica has officially unveiled a multimillion-pound eye clinic and surgical centre in West Yorkshire to provide high-quality support for NHS and private patients.

A grand opening ceremony provided guests with the opportunity to view the state-of-the-art facilities for themselves.

The new clinic in Cleckheaton is now caring for people with a range of eye conditions, including cataract surgery, oculoplastics for conditions around the eye such as drooping eyelids or the removal of lumps, and YAG laser treatment.

Newmedica Bradford and Huddersfield is owned and led by consultant ophthalmologists Mr Aidan Benson, Mr Ahmed Bardan, Mr Mohammed Mohyudin, Mr Nabil El-Hindy and Mr Francesco Pillitteri, alongside operations director Stuart Cannonier.

The clinic currently employs a team of 18 and plans to recruit more staff from the community as the business grows and demand increases.

Stuart said: ‘We’re delighted to be helping the Bradford communities and surrounding areas with their eyecare needs. The clinic is locally owned and led, with our staff having strong links in and around the city, so we are keen to support the community in every way we can.

‘Eye health is incredibly important to us all and, as with any medical condition, the more quickly something is treated, the better the outcome is likely to be.

‘We want the process of referral, treatment and aftercare to be as smooth as possible and to offer a truly personalised service that is uniquely tailored for every individual who comes through our doors. This includes a free transport service for NHS patients who need it.’

Newmedica Bradford and Huddersfield is focused on supporting the NHS to help drive down waiting times so that more patients receive eye care services as quickly as possible.

In the near future, the clinic will offer its expertise and facilities to help train new NHS surgeons, ensuring the continuation of high-quality care across the region.

Mr Nabil El Hindy, consultant and clinical lead for the clinic, added: ‘In addition to the patients we see, we are enjoying working with local optometrists and other partners, ensuring that our joined-up working across the system provides patients with the treatment they need and deserve in a timely manner.

‘Using the highest-quality monofocal cataract replacements lenses for our NHS patients, we are reducing the likelihood of patients needing corrective treatment in the future. This reduces costs for the NHS, allowing them to support other pressures and, most importantly, it means fewer patients going through the worry of avoidable treatment.

‘This high standard of care and rapid access to treatment means that Bradford patients can get back to leading their normal, healthy lives quickly and comfortably.’
