Local MP Warinder Juss meets clinical teams supporting vital NHS eye care services

Warinder Juss, MP for Wolverhampton West, visited SpaMedica Wolverhampton on Thursday to discuss how independent sector capacity is providing essential care to local residents and supporting NHS ophthalmology services nationwide.
SpaMedica is one of the UK’s largest independent providers of NHS-funded ophthalmology care, specialising in cataract surgery as well as Glaucoma, AMD, and YAG laser capsulotomy, and is providing a critical role in cutting local NHS waiting times.
With a service supported by advanced technology and clinical expertise, SpaMedica has achieved industry leading clinical outcomes and best in class patient satisfaction scores, widening NHS patient access to high quality care.
Juss toured SpaMedica’s state-of-the-art clinical facilities and met colleagues on the front lines of local ophthalmology care, learning how SpaMedica’s community-based services are enabling more patients to be treated quickly and safely, while reducing pressure on NHS hospitals.
Supporting NHS patients and cutting Wolverhampton waiting lists
SpaMedica Wolverhampton treated more than 7,000 patients in 2024, of which approximately 33% came from deprived neighbourhoods in the local area. The cutting-edge hospital employs a dedicated local team, contributing to local employment and community health infrastructure in Wolverhampton and the wider Black Country.
During the visit, SpaMedica identified where the independent sector could provide additional high value care in the community to support patients in Wolverhampton and drive down NHS waiting lists further.
