Keratoconus management advice to be shared in webinar
An upcoming BCLA webinar will look at ways of managing keratoconic patients, discussing a variety of contact lens types and options for surgical procedures.
Based on her experience of treating a range of patients in the department of Ophthalmology in the Antwerp University Hospital, the online session will be led by Professor Carina Koppen, chair of Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Antwerp.
Titled ‘Contemporary management of keratoconus in an academic setting’, the webinar will use real-life case studies to highlight examples of progressive keratoconus and the results of crosslinking in these patients.
Prof Koppen said: “Integrated care in collaboration with the optometrist ensures that patients are given all options for vision correction: from optimally adjusted glasses to the most complex contact lens correction.
“For each individual patient we look for the best combination of vision improvement and comfort and for this we use the full range of specialty lenses: soft, hybrid, corneal and scleral.”
Prof Koppen is the president of the European Contact Lens Society of Ophthalmologists (ECLSO), board member of EuCornea and president of the Academia Ophthalmologica Belgica (AOB).
Her clinical work and research initiatives are centered on medical and surgical aspects of diseases of the cornea and ocular surface.
The webinar will be held from 7pm on Wednesday, 17 July. This webinar is open to all and one CPD point will also be available to all that are eligible to receive.
