Homeless eye health charity receives donation
VCHP, a charity that supports homeless people with their eye health has had an autorefractor donated by a volunteer optometrist.
Ross Campbell, optometry director at Specsavers Northallerton, donated the piece of kit – which is used to help measure a patient’s prescription – to the Leeds clinic operated by Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP).
‘It’s useful in our VCHP clinics as it’s great for those patients with particular requirements,’ says Mr Campbell, who volunteers at the clinic. ‘It makes their patient journey quicker and less challenging. It also allows the optometrist to spend more time with the patient examining their eye health.’
David Brown, General Manager, VCHP, said: ‘Ross started volunteering at our Leeds clinic for homeless people in 2022 and then has further supported the clinic with this fantastic donation of equipment. Local practices can help this cause in many different ways so I would encourage them to follow Ross’s lead and they can start by contacting the charity.’
