The Body Doctor Ltd’s Managing Director, Sue Grant and The Deputy Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Nosheen Dad, front, with Sales and Marketing Manager, Sam Wymer and TV medic, Dr Hilary Jones, behind, and Body Doctor staff, celebrating the opening of The Body Doctor Eye Clinic.

The Body Doctor Ltd is offering optical practices health screening for their patients using the pioneering LifeMeter to help assess their risk of developing age-related macular degeneration or Alzheimer’s disease.

The eyecare company is holding a free screening day on May 1 for its local community in Huddersfield during which the public will receive advice and a recommended personal treatment plan to help prevent them from developing the life-altering conditions.

The invitation for the public is to celebrate the opening of The Body Doctor Eye Clinic on April 8, which was performed by the Deputy Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Nosheen Dad, supported by TV medic Dr Hilary Jones, the face of the company’s Eye Doctor eye compresses, eyedrops and eyelid wipes.

“We’re excited to have a LifeMeter in our central hub in Huddersfield as there are only 12 in the whole world,” explained The Body Doctor Ltd’s Sales and Marketing Director, Sam Wymer.

“We’re thrilled to be able to offer the LifeMeter screening to the local areas surrounding our headquarters,” he added. “The recently launched LifeMeter screening package is offered to stockists of the MacuPrime and ReMind supplements but we wanted to give something back to our local community to help celebrate the milestone opening of The Body Doctor Eye Clinic. This ties in nicely with our company ethos of offering products and services which boost health and wellness, making people’s lives happier.”

The LifeMeter uses the most advanced technology to measure carotenoid levels, with its accuracy scientifically proven in over 30 peer-reviewed studies.

During the screening day for the public the LifeMeter will painlessly measure the concentration of carotenoid nutrients from a visitor’s fingertip in less than a minute, with no skin pricks.

The presence of these nutrients in the skin is a key indicator of someone’s wellbeing. Those with a low carotenoid level have been shown to have a higher frequency of eye strain and fatigue, trouble driving at night, poor contrast sensitivity and slower visual and cognitive processing, plus an increased chance of sunburn and brain fog. Studies have also shown that carotenoid concentrations are lower in people with mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease.

As people get older the macular pigment in their eyes can wear down and become thinner. This reduces the protection the macula and retina have from oxidative stress which can lead to age-related macular degeneration.

Three carotenoids, lutein, meso-zeaxanthin and zeaxanthin have been discovered in the macula at the back of the eye and in the brain and food supplements with the correct levels of these carotenoids can be beneficial.

The Body Doctor Ltd recently became the UK distributor for the innovative MacuPrime and ReMind supplements. MacuPrime is the only eye supplement backed by over 15 clinical trials. ReMind is a first of its kind supplement scientifically formulated to support normal brain function, which has been shown to have positive effects on the quality of life of Alzheimer’s patients.

The Body Doctor Ltd is offering practices the same health screenings for their patients if they stock the MacuPrime and/or ReMind supplements and sign up to a screening package. During a day’s screening a representative of The Body Doctor Ltd visits the practice to screen its patients. For more information, email sales@the-body-doctor.com or call 01484 868 816.
