GOC suspends Newcastle based optometrist from register
The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to suspend Gareth Long, an optometrist based in Newcastle, from its register for four months.
A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct.
This is in relation to adding inaccurate and/or misleading records in order to conceal that he had incorrectly advised a patient that he had cystoid macula oedema.
The Committee found these actions to be dishonest.
Mr Long has until 21 March 2024 to appeal against his suspension.
