GOC erases London based student optometrist

The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to erase Syed Shah, a student optometrist based in London, from its register.

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to undertake training impaired by reason of convictions. This is in relation to being convicted for possession of class A and B drugs and a knife.

Mr Shah was initially suspended from the GOC register in October 2020 for 12 months for misconduct in relation to his convictions.

Mr Shah’s erasure will come into effect on 23 November 2021 should he not appeal.
