Chance for students to become a BCLA ambassador

The next generation of eye care professionals has been urged to submit applications to be elected as the new Student Ambassadors for the BCLA.

The BCLA needs two students from each BUCCLE institution to join the Ambassador team and act as an advocate for the BCLA while contributing to discussions about developing the Association’s interaction with students.

Students have until Sunday, 24 November to get their application in via the BCLA website. The opportunity is open to all UK optometry students.

Luke Stevens-Burt, chief executive of BCLA, said: “Serving as a Student Ambassador is a fantastic way for aspiring eye care professionals to meet leading figures in the contact lens field and network with like-minded peers.

“Our Student Ambassadors will have the chance to volunteer to support the BCLA’s clinical conference from 5-7 June 2025 in Birmingham, getting a behind-the-scenes view of a major contact lens conference.

“Successful applicants will get the opportunity to promote their profile on the BCLA website and social platforms, alongside supporting the development of a range of activities including blogs, podcasts and newsletters, as well as site visits and meetings with the BCLA Council’s student mentor.

“We look forward to working with an engaged and enthusiastic cohort of student ambassadors who share our drive to shape the future of contact lens practice around the world.”

Student ambassadors will be expected to promote the BCLA to fellow optometry and dispensing optician students and actively drive sign-ups to the BCLA student membership.
