First online education day for locum optometrists
The AOP’s online locum day will take place on Sunday 25 June, 9.30am-3.45pm
Optometry Today (OT), in partnership with the Association of Optometrists (AOP), headline sponsor Johnson & Johnson, and Boots Opticians have announced the first online locum education event tailored to the needs of locum optometrists, as well as those considering locum work.
The sessions will be delivered by clinical experts in the field on topics of value to practitioners engaged in locum work. Speakers include Morven Campbell, optometrist and dispensing optician with over 25 years’ experience, Professor Bruce Evans, visiting professor at City University and London South Bank University – listed in the top 100 Global Optometrist Research Ranking, and Robyn Marsden, optometrist and professional affairs consultant at Johnson & Johnson Vision.
Wendy Steele, AOP Commercial Director said: “The flexibility and varied nature of practice gives locum optometrists the opportunity to build a portfolio of roles and connect with a diverse range of patients and optical staff. The online locum day will provide delegates with the necessary skills to seamlessly navigate roles in their different settings.”
The programme includes five live webinar sessions, each offering one interactive CPD point. Sessions will cover a range of topics including tips for keeping clear and accurate clinical records, advice on comfortably fitting patients with contact lenses, insights into handling difficult workplace conversations and guidance on orthoptics for busy locum optometrists.
Ian Beasley, Head of Education at the AOP, said: “Locums are a vital part of the eye care sector that face unique challenges as a result of the varied nature of the role. Through the full day event, locum optometrists will be equipped with the necessary tools to foster high quality working relationships and deliver excellent patient care.”
The AOP offers a range of support services to nearly 5500 locum members
