Eligible members invited to apply across six designated positions
The Association of Optometrists (AOP) is inviting applications for six designated Council positions, offering eligible members the opportunity to participate in shaping policy, enhancing member services and supporting peers.
The AOP Council is comprised of 34 members, representing different areas across the UK.
The newly appointed Councillors will represent various segments of the profession, covering a diverse range of practice modes and career stages.
Designated positions open for applications are:
- Newly-qualified optometrist (x1)
- Franchisee and Joint Venture partner
- Academic optometrist
- Undergraduate student
- Domiciliary care optometrist
- Pre-registration optometrist.
Emma Spofforth, AOP Chairman said: “Taking on the role of a Councillor is a highly rewarding experience that allows you to combine your expertise and understanding of practical delivery in an optical setting to drive progress for the profession. We don’t ask for prior experience but what we do want to see is enthusiasm, and a willingness to contribute your views and communicate with your fellow members. This role is a unique opportunity to enhance your professional skills and adds a new dimension to any career as you grow and build on your skills as an advocate for optometry and for your peers.
Adam Sampson, AOP Chief Executive, said: “Our Councillors play a crucial role in furthering the interests of optometry and our members, broadening the AOP’s impact both within and beyond the sector. The great work our council undertakes, ensures that we maintain the influence needed to advance our policy asks. We encourage all members that are eligible to stand for appointment and take the opportunity to represent your profession.”
Eligible members are invited to apply from 17 March; applications will close on 11 April.
The Appointments Committee will select candidates for the open positions, with the final results announced at the AOP’s June AGM.
