CPD webinars and a live seminar for Love your Lenses Week

Love Your Lenses with CPD webinars and a live seminar

Positive Impact is celebrating Love Your Lenses Week next month with a series of CPD webinars and a live CPD evening in central London on Tuesday June 14 from 6.30pm.

The events begin with a webinar on June 13 at 6.30pm with the theme ‘Dispelling Ortho-K myths,’ worth one interactive CPD point and featuring Scotlens’ Clinical Director Scott Brown. (email info@positiveimpact.co.uk or call 01424 851375.)

The first webinar will be followed by the live event the next day at Bloomsbury, London, which will look at ‘Night ‘n’ day lenses to fit your patient.’ The seminar is worth four CPD points and will feature Mr Brown and Positive Impact Director, Phil Thompson. (email info@positiveimpact.co.uk or call 01424 851375.)

The second webinar, June 14th will be at 6.30pm when a panel of eye care experts will discuss the everyday impact of one of the most important contact lens research papers released in recent years during a webinar being held as part of Love Your Lenses Week.

Prof James Wolffsohn, Neil Retallic, Indie Grewal and Serena Dunwoody will present the webinar, entitled ‘Not all Contact Lenses are equal; The real-world significance’ at 6.30pm on Tuesday, 14 June.

The webinar, sponsored by Bausch + Lomb, forms part of a suite of activities being staged to mark Love Your Lenses Week, a global campaign delivered by the BCLA to promote the safe wearing of contact lenses.

The session, which will be held on Zoom, will discuss the contents of a paper by Nathan Efron, Phillip Morgan, Jason Nichols, Karen Walsh, Mark Willcox, James Wolffsohn and Lyndon Jones published in Contact Lens & Anterior Eye earlier this year.

The research considered the implications of inappropriately substituting soft contact lens types and the potential for patient dissatisfaction and adverse ocular events.

The paper concluded: “Contact lens are medical devices which are prescribed and fitted; they should never be substituted for another lens type in the absence of a new prescription further to a full finalised fitting, for the simple reason that all soft contact lenses are not created equal.

“A substituted lens may have properties that results in undesirable consequences in respect of vision, ocular health, comfort and cosmetic appearance, and may be incompatible with the lifestyle of the patient.”

BCLA president Neil Retallic said: “Our panel, containing a paper author, an industry representative and an eye care practitioner, will deliberate the scientific relevance of this paper and what it means, not just in everyday practice to ECPs but also how it transfers across industry.

“As we celebrate Love Your Lenses Week the webinar is a chance to consider that while not all soft contact lenses are created equal, they all can be loved the same.”

The webinar is not CPD accredited but is open to all, not just BCLA members or those who have registered for Love Your Lenses Week.

The week’s programme will conclude with a webinar on June 16 from 6.30pm with the theme, ‘Astigmatic presbyopes: hybrid multifocals make fitting easy.’ Mr Thompson is the speaker and the webinar has been awarded one interactive CPD point.
