OPTOVERSITY CHALLENGE FINAL to be at 100%
Optoversity Challenge – uniting 12 universities and more than 50 students, comes to the grand final at 100% Optical on Sunday, under the direction of organisers Out of the Box Optics.
Three sessions for final year students plus OSCE stations around the show will create a buzz as students and alumni cheer on their teams. Thanks to support from across the optical industry generous prizes have been provided for the winners and donations made, which along with student fundraising, has brought £8,350 raised for the partner charity, Vision Care for Homeless People. This will help to provide free eyecare through the city centre clinics in the months ahead.
In the earlier Optoversity Challenge heats – held online – University of the West of England achieved the highest score, and as a team raised the most for charity, although the top student fundraiser is from Aston University.
Karmelo Modina, co-founder of Out of the Box Optics, explained –
“No other event brings students together for such an inspired challenge, where they can test their knowledge and clinical skills, via OSCEs, amongst their peers in a fun way. We moved online for the event during Covid and this encouraged us to create even better ways to engage with the optometrists of tomorrow, and in turn this has led to more businesses donating valuable prizes.”
Generous support has been provided by 100% Optical – 25-27 February – which will meet the cost of travel and accommodation at the show for the finalists.
