100% Foray into ophthalmology is a huge success

100% Optical Delegates gain huge educational benefits in extension of professional activity.

For the first time in ten years of running the show Media 10’s investment has paid off by extending the show’s audience to Ophthalmology.

Throughout the three day show all delegates benefitted from an additional teaching hub, namely, the Ophthalmology Hub.

Both ECP’s and ophthalmologists crowded the hub lecture area to meet some of the most revered ophthalmology lecturers and to gain insight into eye problems that in a patient journey involve both optometrists and ophthalmologists in treatment processes.

Hats off to 100% in spotting the need not only for additional education but for the urgent requirement for both professions to not only be educated but to learn how to better work together.

There were other spin-offs from Media Ten’s forward thinking as many exhibitors not previously at the show with product ranges more akin to ophthalmology were there in force allowing optometrists to see and try equipment and products not seen before.

Take the last day Monday traditionally a quieter day of the three, but not this year. It was noticeable on this day how many ophthalmologists attended on the Monday.

Part of that was the fine lecturers with content that fitted the new optometrist/ophthalmologist joint interest.

Miss Jane Olver visiting the Rayner Stand

For example, Rayner, their first time at 100% provided a joint lecture by an optometrist and the ophthalmologist that work as a team. Purvi Thomson and Masara Laginaf both from OCL Vision.

The lecture focussed on Dry Eye before and after Cataract Surgery, demonstrating the importance of knowing the patient’s needs and assessing Dry Eye before treatment as well as making the right choice of IOL from Rayner’s wide and proven range.

Miss Jane Olver, ISD-DE Conference 2024

DRY Eye, a main theme at 100% Ophthalmology this year

Whether by coincidence or design this lecture was followed by a Tour de Force 1 hour lecture by one of the leading Dry Eye Specialists in the UK:  Miss Jane Olver, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Oculoplastic & Lacrimal Specialist, Clinica London and currently President of the ISD-DE 2024 Conference.

Ophthalmologists and Optometrists and CLOs all gained a total insight into the difference and similarities in watery and dry eyes. Dry eye is a very big issue, and it was noticeably one of the main stories discussed around the arena that was London Excel, even bigger this year.

Jane in her capacity of President of the ISD-DE (The International Society of Dacryology and Dry Eye) is hosting a very important conference at County Hall in London from May 29th to May 31st 2024, where once again many optometrists and ophthalmologists from the UK  can mingle and learn from each other and from the lectures and demonstrations from those leading the way in dry eye.

The conference is named “The Year of the Tear” Save the dates

All delegates will be awarded CPD points.
