Newmedica named on new ophthalmology tender framework supporting NHS
NEWMEDICA has been named on a new tender framework supporting NHS Trusts seeking independent providers for publicly funded ophthalmology services.
Newmedica is just one of four organisations named on a UK-wide NHS framework that reduces the amount of red tape that NHS Trusts have to deal with when issuing tenders for ophthalmology services. Rather than having to go through a full tender process, NHS Trusts can choose to run a procurement process with the four companies listed on the framework.
Welcoming the framework, Newmedica Contracting and managed service director Karen Croker says: ‘This is good news for patients and the NHS because it opens up the opportunity to get vital services running much faster. Newmedica was selected to be on this framework because of our high quality of care, low complication rates, high quality lenses and value for money.
‘Our consultant owned and led surgical centres have the capacity and efficiency to provide high quality and timely care for patients. It unlocks greater patient choice and, with our short wait times, can enable us to do even more to ease pressures on NHS ophthalmology departments with long waiting lists.’
She adds: ‘Newmedica has been a partner to the NHS for two decades, with our network of surgical centres and eye health clinics across England, and we look forward to building on that partnership with this new framework. We would service any awarded tenders through our existing network of more than 30 hospitals or work with an NHS trust to mobilise a local solution based on their requirements.’
The framework is run by HealthTrust Europe, a specialist procurement company that provides support for NHS Trusts. It covers full scope ophthalmology services including cataract, YAG laser, glaucoma, oculoplastic, wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal vein occlusion (RVO), diabetic macular oedema (DMO), vitreoretinopathy and general ophthalmology.
