GOC erases Leeds based student dispensing optician
The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to erase Haroon Amin, a student dispensing optician based in Leeds, from its register.
A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to undertake training impaired by failing to engage with the regulator. This is in relation to not attending a substantive review hearing, not providing any evidence of remorse, insight, remediation, and not providing anything to suggest that a further period of suspension would achieve any useful purpose.
Mr Amin was initially suspended from the GOC register in November 2020 for 12 months for misconduct in relation to plagiarism and dishonesty.
Mr Amin’s erasure will come into effect on 4 November 2021 should he not appeal.
