Evening of education for independent eye care practitioners

The AOP delivers education sessions in Liverpool and Cambridge tailored to independent eye care practitioners

The Association of Optometrists (AOP), in partnership with the Vision team at Johnson & Johnson, will deliver education sessions for independent eye care practitioners covering clinical, ethical and legal cases encountered in practice, alongside effective management strategies.

The sessions will take place in locations across the country throughout the year, with the first two sessions taking place in Liverpool on Wednesday 8 May and Cambridge on Wednesday 5 June.

Ian Beasley, Head of Education at the AOP, said: “The event has been designed to equip independent eye care practitioners with necessary advice, strategies, and techniques to ensure they are providing the best care and advice to their patients. They will have the opportunity to update their knowledge on the latest clinical insights, technological developments, and research, which is immensely beneficial in the final year of the CPD cycle.”

Sessions will include a peer review facilitated by the AOP’s clinical and regulatory team and a discussion workshop led by the Vision team at Johnson & Johnson, offering six interactive CPD points.

The programme will cover a range of topics including strategies for managing children presenting with functional vision loss, tools for handling child safeguarding issues, advice on understanding a patient’s lifestyle needs and visual requirements, and communication techniques to maximise patient satisfaction and reduce contact lens drop out.

The AOP offers a range of events to members including, webinars, online CPD, in person sessions and videos. Upcoming events include the Locum clinical skills conference in Manchester on 2 May which will provide locum practitioners with clinical training designed for their specific needs, and MAYopia Day on 12 May covering a full day of online sessions on key insights on the contemporary management of myopia in clinical practice.
