GOC suspends Blackburn based optometrist

The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to suspend Christopher Hurst, an optometrist based in Blackburn, from its register for six months.

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired on public interest grounds.

This is in relation to being convicted of an offence under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 relating to carer ill-treatment/wilful neglect of a person without mental capacity.

Mr Hurst has until 6 September 2022 to appeal his suspension.
