Specsavers celebrates century of dispensing expertise through #LoveDOWeek

From helping a child choose their first pair of glasses to supporting someone with changing vision later in life, dispensing professionals change patients’ lives every day. As the profession marks its 100th anniversary, Specsavers is launching #LoveDOWeek to shine a spotlight on the people behind a century of expert optical care.

The week-long celebration showcases the incredible patient care these professionals deliver, their contribution to practice success and the breadth of opportunities available within the profession.  It begins on 14 September.

‘Different people. Different routes. One profession. That’s the story we’re celebrating through #LoveDOWeek. As we recognise 100 years of dispensing, we’re also looking ahead to the people, talent and ambition that will shape the next 100 years,’ says Kirsteen Newman, head of dispensing advancement at Specsavers.

Throughout #LoveDOWeek, Specsavers will hare stories from across the profession, highlighting colleagues at different stages of their careers and showcasing the many routes available within dispensing.

‘What makes me most proud of this profession is its people. Every story that we’re sharing during #LoveDOWeek demonstrates their expertise, care and commitment to patient care,’ says Ms Newman.

‘As a dispensing optician myself, I’m privileged in my role at Specsavers to meet the very best of dispensing professionals across Specsavers practices. That ranges from optical assistants taking their first steps into the profession, Cert 3 and Cert 4 students, contact lens opticians, dispensing opticians and partners. They are all changing lives.’

The week, which will also see activity on social media, will shine a light on the breadth of careers open to dispensing professionals.

‘One of the most encouraging things about our profession is the variety of opportunities it offers. There is no single route to success in dispensing and no ceiling on what you can achieve,’ says Ms Newman.
