High fidelity pipeline between primary and secondary care celebrated

“An ultra-safe, standardized, care pathway which is GDPR compliant,” is how leading Scottish ophthalmologist John Ellis describes the Lutra Connect platform linking more than 70 optometrists to his team of surgeons and clinic administrators at Accord Eyecare.

Having used the first generation of Lutra Health within the NHS at its first site in Dundee, John now has Lutra Connect totally integrated into his private ophthalmology clinic and is using it to ensure the very best care pathway, as optometrist, Ameen Sattar, explained –

“We are now a year into using the platform at our Arbroath and Monifieth optometry practices and it is very easy to use. It requires concise information without all the seeming irrelevancies. The care of more than 50 patients – mainly for cataracts – has now been guided by Lutra Connect.

“Most importantly, we can assure the patient of a prompt consultation from the initial referral to the date of their surgery. In addition, the platform allows access to expert advice from a specialist ophthalmologist. It is now an integral part of our practice referral process, ensuring a positive experience for our patients,” said Ameen.

John Ellis describes the platform as “high-fidelity between primary and secondary care”, which has been an integral part of his clinic since 2023.

“I just love the interface as it gets better and better, with everything documented and with no possibility of losing data. I don’t see how it could be eclipsed and is incredibly cost-effective. The integration of AI is reducing the familiarization time for new users and is set to bring a plethora of new advantages. I am sure we are set for deeper integration, using more patient information videos of FAQs and information for patients. We have recorded quite a few and would love to be able to upload them.”

John describes the shared platform for the four parties of optometrist, ophthalmologist, patient and administrator, as a “complete win-win”.

“It is a crutch that I depend upon every day. I don’t think my clinic would survive without it: it is totally integrated into what we are doing for standardised, premium, safe and GDPR compliant care.”
