GOC seeks to appoint two new Council members

The General Optical Council (GOC) is seeking to appoint one lay member and one registrant member to its Council.

The lay member will have expertise in audit, risk and finance and the registrant will be a dispensing optician.

The roles will involve exercising oversight, ensuring effective corporate governance, and making high-level policy decisions. Council members will also be required to operate strategically and impartially, listen, communicate, and influence effectively, exercise judgement, and inspire confidence and support amongst stakeholders.

The successful candidates will replace Rosie Glazebrook, lay member, and Glenn Tomison, dispensing optician, whose tenures come to an end on 31 December 2022.

Dr Anne Wright, CBE, GOC Chair of Council, said: “I would like to warmly thank Rosie and Glenn for their time, contribution, and dedication to supporting our work to become a world-class regulator.

Becoming a Council member is an exciting opportunity to work with fellow members, both lay and registrant, to lead on the GOC’s mission to protect and promote the health and safety of the public and patients, maintain public confidence in the professions, and shape the future of optical regulation.

We welcome all applications from across the UK but are especially keen to hear from candidates in Northern Ireland to maintain fair representation from the devolved nations on our Council.”

The deadline to apply is 2 October 2022. View the candidate pack for more information.
