The OSA have provided an additional auditorium setting with a large screen on its stand M230.
It will be the venue throughout the 3 days for interesting and exciting lecture topics that are very much in the news.
Take a break from CPD hunting and dip into a broad range of interesting and exciting program of lectures from the best lecturers in the vision sector. OSA members have sponsored throughout the 3 days a series of lectures that bring to you the latest developments across a wide range of topics with great takeaways for professionals and important messages for all involved in the Vision Sector.

Saturday April 23rd
On every day at 2.pm and sponsored by Opchat News as part of their “People making the news, now in person.” Series you can hear and meet three great lecturers. If its 2pm it has to be time to visit M230 The OSA stand .
The series will be introduced by Bob Hutchinson Opchat Editor and President Elect of the RSM Primary Healthcare section and he will introduce:
Lisa Donaldson, Head of Eyecare at SeeAbility.
In a lecture titled:
“Takeaways for ECPs in examining, diagnosing and assisting those with learning difficulties & disabilities to improve outcomes for life “
Lisa will be talking about her work at SeeAbility with children with learning disabilities attending special schools and the NHS Special Schools Eye care service. She will also reference specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia /dyspraxia and the difference between the two levels of learning difficulty and why eye care is so important for children with either.
She will highlight the issue of diagnostic overshadowing (behaviours caused by poor vision being wrongly attributed to someone’s learning disability).
Discuss the SEND (special educational needs and disabilities), now a green paper published this month, Vision screening recommendations/services, the Special Schools Eye Care service and SeeAbility’s campaign for equitable services for children and adults in the community (the LOCSU learning disability pathway).

Sunday April 24th
On Sunday morning at 11.00am Sarah Farrant will present a lecture sponsored by Topcon
“Technology to enhance outcomes in specialist clinics”
The lecture will reflect on the concept of how to gather the most appropriate patient data in order to provide enhanced clinics in primary care practice, in particular reference to specialist dry eye clinics and myopia management clinics.
It will review the latest devices available and discussion about how to interpret the data in a meaningful and practical way.
It will also review how to use data to engage in good patient education and compliance with proposed treatment options.

Once again at 2pm Opchat News brings to the stage its continuing news story presented by Dr Christian French Chairman AIO (Opchat headline sponsor) titled:

Monday April 25th
Monday starts with a keynote speech sponsored by the OSA by Peter Thomas – Chief Clinical Information Officer and Director of Digital Medicine, Moorfields Eye Hospital. 11.00am
“Artificial Intelligence”
Artificial Intelligence is one of a number of technologies that are expected radically to transform healthcare in the coming years. However, AI is not new, nor is the ability of computer systems to outperform expert humans at clinical decision making. In this talk, we will look at the history of AI and its track record in medicine, and ask why it has not already had more of an impact. We will examine how our approaches to providing clinical care on the high street and in the hospital will need to change in order for the potential of AI to be released, and how a transformed healthcare system that maximises the use of AI might look.

At 2.pm Monday in another Opchat News sponsored lecture Julian Jackson, founder of VisionBridge will provide a 45-minute lecture titled:
“The power of assistive technologies and why they matter in the fight against sight loss”
As a blind user of assistive technologies, Julian wants to be mobile, independent, safe and informed. In this context, He will introduce his social enterprise VisionBridge and his work to not only support eye research but also to champion particularly innovative so called “wearables, portables, solutions and Apps.” And the rehabilitative value that they offer users. He will touch on specific examples of technical ingenuity in the fields of vision enhancement, object avoidance and recognition, orientation and navigation and just some of the emerging trends worldwide.
He will highlight the current barriers for vi patients to accessing such technologies and the critical need for all professionals across eye health, healthcare, education, community, voluntary and social care sectors to help spread the word about the benefits of such technologies
