In Memoriam: Association of Optometrists pays tribute to remarkable Chair and Councillor, Kevin Thompson

Profession shares fond memories of “Charismatic, quick-witted and endlessly good-humoured” Chair and Councillor, Kevin Thompson.

It is with profound sadness that the Association of Optometrists (AOP) announces the passing of Kevin Thompson, previous AOP Chair and Councillor whose contribution to the optometry profession and the organisation was nothing short of remarkable.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones at this deeply difficult time.

Throughout his time in office, Kevin was a driving force for optometrists and dispensing opticians – championing their interests, amplifying their voice, and working tirelessly to ensure the profession continued to grow in strength and influence.

Kevin’s vision and dedication helped shape the direction the AOP and the profession and he leaves behind a lasting legacy that will be felt for years to come.

Reflecting on Kevin’s work at the AOP, Emma Spofforth, Past Chair said: “A person who did so very much for our profession behind the scenes and within the AOP during his extensive time as a Councillor. We will miss the charismatic, quick-witted and endlessly good-humoured approach that Kevin brought to every meeting, conversation and challenge. We have lost an amazing advocate for our profession.”

Colleagues across the AOP Board, Council, staff and partner organisations remember Kevin’s generosity of spirit and his genuine care for the members he served.
