Celebrating a Remarkable Legacy: Martin Batho Retires After 45 Years at Hoya Vision Care

After an extraordinary 45-year career with Hoya Vision Care, including nearly two decades as Managing Director, Martin Batho will retire on 31st March 2026, leaving behind a legacy of innovation, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the optical industry.
Martin joined Hoya in 1981, embarking on a journey that would see him rise through the ranks to become one of the most respected figures in the business.
Appointed UK Managing Director in 2006, Martin steered the company through significant technological advancements, market shifts, and global challenges. Under his leadership, Hoya expanded its product portfolio, strengthened its customer relationships, and reinforced its reputation for quality and service. His commitment to innovation and sustainability has left a lasting impact on both the company and the wider optical community.
Whilst Martin will retire from his current role on 31st March 2026, he will however continue to support Hoya with strategic projects and initiatives on a part-time basis.
Colleagues describe Martin as a leader who led with integrity, empathy, and a relentless drive for improvement. His mentorship has shaped the careers of many, and his influence will continue to be felt long after his departure.
Speaking on his upcoming retirement, Martin said:
“It’s been an incredible journey. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together and grateful for the support of so many talented individuals over the years. Hoya has been more than a workplace—it’s been a family.”
As Martin prepares to step down, the business has announced that Jonathan Cohen will succeed him as Managing Director.
Jonathan brings over 15 years of experience in the optical industry, including the past four years at Hoya & Seiko UK, where he has played a pivotal role in strategic development and business growth.
Jonathan’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the whole business. His vast industry knowledge, forward-thinking approach, and commitment to customer service excellence make him well-positioned to lead the company into its next phase of innovation and success.
