Hold My Beer: Lessons Learned While Managing Corneal and Ocular Surface Disease with Scleral Lenses

Dr John Gelles will look at the lessons he has learned while managing corneal and ocular surface disease with scleral lenses during the one-hour session.

Dr. John Gelles is the director of the specialty contact lens division of the Cornea and Laser Eye Institute and the CLEI Center for Keratoconus in Teaneck, New Jersey, an assistant clinical professor at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, and an adjunct clinical professor at State University of New York College of Optometry, Illinois College of Optometry, and New England College of Optometry.

He said: “Typically the phrase ‘hold my beer’ suggests the speaker is about to engage in risky behaviour that is either doomed to fail or be totally epic. In the context of this lecture, it means managing high-risk patients with scleral lenses where the outcome could be success or disaster.

“This rapid case-based lecture will focus on good and bad outcomes, reviews of the peer-reviewed literature supporting or refuting our choices, and the pearls we learned that apply to any practitioner, no matter the skill level.”
