The British Contact Lens Association is launching a new membership initiative designed to give Specsavers Contact Lens Opticians greater access to professional development, education and resources through BCLA membership.

The new initiative will enable eligible Specsavers CLOs to join the BCLA through a dedicated three-year membership offer, providing access to the association’s comprehensive programme of education and courses throughout their membership.

The initiative reflects the shared commitment of both organisations to supporting continued professional development within contact lens practice and ensuring practitioners have access to high-quality education throughout their careers.

As part of their BCLA membership, Specsavers CLOs will be able to access the association’s extensive range of courses, covering key areas of contact lens practice and supporting practitioners to develop and maintain their knowledge and skills.

Brad Parkes, Chief Executive of the British Contact Lens Association, said: “We are delighted to be working with Specsavers on this initiative, which will make it easier for CLOs across the organisation to engage with BCLA and benefit from our education programme over a sustained period.

“Professional development is central to maintaining high standards of contact lens practice, and we want BCLA membership to provide genuine value to practitioners at every stage of their careers. Giving Specsavers CLOs access to our courses through a three-year membership provides an excellent opportunity to support ongoing learning and development.”

The three-year membership period is intended to give CLOs the opportunity to engage with BCLA education over an extended period, rather than accessing learning on an individual or ad-hoc basis. It will also enable members to make greater use of the wider benefits associated with being part of the professional community.

Grant Duncan, Specsavers Director of Professional Development said: “Every patient deserves the very best contact lens care, and at Specsavers that starts with investing in our people. This partnership with the BCLA gives Contact Lens Opticians an outstanding opportunity to develop specialist expertise, achieve recognised certifications and help shape the future of contact lens practice. Through this partnership we are empowering CLOs to realise their full potential and make an even greater impact for our patients.”

The initiative forms part of BCLA’s wider commitment to making professional education accessible to contact lens professionals and strengthening engagement across the optical sector.

Specsavers CLOs interested in taking advantage of the initiative will be able to access further information and join through the dedicated online membership journey.
