AIO welcomes Shockat Adam as an Honorary AIO member and Scott O’Neill of Doctor Oculus joins the AIO Council

AIO has announced that Independent MP Shockat Adam has joined AIO as an Honorary member of the Association. Shockat who is an Independent Optometrist
and has his own practices in Leicester and Peterborough is the only qualified practitioner in Parliament. He has become a strong advocate for eyecare in the community and tabled the Glaucoma Care (England) Private Members Bill in January.

Keval Sejpar, AIO Chair said ‘we are delighted to welcome Shockat as a member of AIO, and as an Independent he has a great understanding of the sector, and how it operates. We look forward to working closely with him in the coming months and years to promote eye health care in the community’.

Shockat commented ‘I am truly honoured to be welcomed as an Honorary Member of AIO and to stand amongst my peers. Independent optometrists are the backbone of eye care in our communities, and I will continue to advocate for eye health, as I always have, and in particular for the vital role optometrists play in protecting the nation’s sight.’

AIO has also announced that Scott O’Neill from Doctor Oculus in Birmingham has joined the AIO Council. Keval said ‘Scott has made a real impact in his new practice and brings a fresh perspective to the Council. We are sure he will deliver huge value to AIO, and we are delighted he has agreed to join the Council.

Scott commented ‘As a dispensing optician running my own independent practice, I know there’s a lot we do well, and plenty we could do better. Dispensing opticians have far more to offer than we’re often given credit for, and I’d like to see that change. I’m looking forward to being part of an organisation that’s willing to challenge the status quo rather than just accept it.’
