The British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) has opened applications for its prestigious Fellowship programme, inviting eye care professionals to gain recognition for their contribution to contact lens practice and anterior eye care.

For its 50th anniversary year, the Association has set itself a celebratory goal: to welcome 50 new Fellows into a community already made up of more than 250 Fellows from the UK and around the world.

Successful applicants will be formally admitted at the BCLA’s 2027 Clinical Conference and Exhibition, which will also mark the Association’s 50th Anniversary Conference in Birmingham next June.

BCLA Fellowship is one of the Association’s highest levels of professional recognition. It reflects advanced knowledge and meaningful contribution across areas such as clinical practice, research, education and wider professional development.

Brad Parkes, Chief Executive of the BCLA, said: “BCLA Fellowship represents a commitment to professional excellence and lifelong learning, and we are proud of the outstanding community of Fellows who have helped shape the development of contact lens practice and anterior eye care over many decades.

“As we approach our 50th anniversary, we want to celebrate the expertise, innovation and dedication that exists throughout our profession. Our ambition is to welcome 50 new Fellows as part of our 50th year celebrations, creating a lasting legacy and recognising those who continue to drive the profession forward.

“I would encourage anyone who believes they meet the criteria to explore the Fellowship pathway and submit an application. Becoming a Fellow is a significant professional achievement and an opportunity to be part of a highly respected network of peers.”

The Fellowship pathway is designed for individuals who can demonstrate advanced knowledge and a meaningful contribution to the profession. Online guidance explains the eligibility requirements, submission criteria and application process.

Applications are open now, with submissions required by Friday, 4 December 2026.
