Bolton MP meets with SpaMedica clinical experts delivering vital local eyecare

Kirith Entwistle, MP (Right in pic) for Bolton North East, visited SpaMedica Bolton on Monday to discuss how SpaMedica is providing critical care to local NHS patients and supporting NHS ophthalmology services.
SpaMedica is one of the UK’s largest independent providers of NHS-funded ophthalmology care, specialising in cataract surgery as well as Glaucoma, AMD, and YAG laser capsulotomy, delivering industry-leading outcomes for patients and best-in-class patient satisfaction scores.
Headquartered in Bolton with more than 200 staff across two city locations, SpaMedica is playing a vital role reducing NHS waiting times and widening access to eye care services in Greater Manchester. It is also providing valuable savings for the NHS through its unique approach to patient triaging, which matches patients with complex needs to experienced clinical specialists.
Entwistle met SpaMedica’s experts delivering care to local residents, and learned how SpaMedica’s services are enabling more patients to be safely treated in the community while alleviating pressure on local NHS hospitals.
Cutting Bolton waiting lists
SpaMedica Bolton, rated Good by the Care Quality Commission, treated 4,500 patients in 2025 – of which approximately 30% came from deprived neighbourhoods in the local area. SpaMedica Bolton employs a dedicated local team, supporting jobs and community health in the region.
During discussions, SpaMedica highlighted how the NHS could better utilise independent sector resources to deliver a wider range of high-value community care for the NHS, while cutting waiting lists and improving health outcomes for patients.
