MTicking the menopause-friendly boxes for dry eye awareness

In a possible first for optics, The Body Doctor has joined forces with the menopause campaigner, GenM and has secured MTick menopause-friendly accreditation for nine of its leading dry eye products.

MTick is the world’s first universal shopping symbol to signpost menopause-friendly products on packaging, both in-store and online.

The Body Doctor’s MTick-accredited products include The Eye Doctor products Antibacterial Dry Eye Compress, Dry Eye Kit, Eye Mist, Advanced Comfort Eyelid Oil, Advanced Triple Action Eye Drops and Hypochlorous Eyelid Spray, as well as the ReMind supplements.

The Body Doctor’s Sales and Marketing Director, Sam Wymer, said: “We’re very excited to partner with GenM and are thrilled to announce that we have secured the MTick-accreditation for our leading products. There’s a significant lack of awareness that dry eye is one of the 48 symptoms that women can experience during perimenopause and menopause.

“Our goal in partnering with this incredible collective is to make it easier for customers to find the products that provide relief, helping to close that awareness gap and improve their overall wellbeing.”

The Body Doctor will be raising awareness about menopause and dry eye during Eye Health Awareness Week from September 23 and Menopause Awareness Month in October.

There are more than 15.5 million women in the UK who are currently in menopause and GenM’s Menopause Market Report found that they feel invisible. Retailers and brands often overlook the specific demands of this demographic and how best to serve them, the campaigner highlighted.

The Body Doctor’s own research showed that dry eye affects around 61 per cent of women in perimenopause and menopause. When menopause occurs, androgen hormone levels decrease, impacting the meibomian and lacrimal glands. The glands can become inflamed and produce fewer tears of poorer quality. Menopausal women with dry eyes may experience blurred vision, light sensitivity, swollen eyelids and increased tearing.
