Specsavers colleagues scoop prestigious Optician award

THE team at Specsavers Northampton has been named a winner at the optical sector’s equivalent of the Oscars.

The team, led by the Jude Edwards and Mukesh Patel, scooped the multiple practice of the year title at the Optician Awards. A number of other Specsavers colleagues also saw their names up in lights as finalists at the prestigious awards ceremony, held at the Park Lane Hilton in London.

‘We are absolutely elated to have won the award. It is also humbling to know that the team have done it for a third year in a row in terms of being finalists for three of the years, and winning awards twice in that time just shows how fantastic they are. They are our team and our family,’ says Jude, who is the optometry director at Specsavers Northampton.

Mukesh, the retail director at Specsavers Northampton, also praised the dedication of their entire team to patients, each other and the community. ‘This award means everything. It reflects the hard work of everyone from training to patient care and community engagement and everything else that we do,’ he says.

Specsavers Bingley and Specsavers Weedon Road were finalists in the multiple practice of the year category with other Specsavers colleagues also receiving recognition at the awards ceremony, hosted by comedian Russell Kane.

Derby1 Domiciliary Specsavers and Newcastle2 Home Visits were runner-ups in the domiciliary award, while Specsavers Derby was a finalist in the contact lens practice of the year category. Specsavers Hucknall was optical assistant team of the year runners-up. In the contact lens practitioner of the year award, Nicola Hughes from Specsavers Macclesfield was a finalist while Elaine Hawthorn, of Specsavers Stranraer, was a runner-up in the optometrist of the year section.

Specsavers also sponsored the clinical leader of the future award, a new category, in this year’s Optician Awards to recognise the talent of the sector.
