Eyecare company wins top business award
The Body Doctor company, manufacturer of The Eye Doctor range of innovative eyecare solutions to treat dry eye disease, Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and blepharitis, and inventor of Sterileyes patented antibacterial compresses, has been named as one of the 50 fastest growing companies in Yorkshire.
The prestigious Ward Hadaway Yorkshire Fastest 50 Awards, in association with The Yorkshire Post, celebrate growth, innovation and the commercial achievements of Yorkshire businesses.
The awards rank the 50 best performing privately-owned companies which have consistently increased turnover over the past three financial years while remaining profitable. The list is based on financial data filed with Companies House.
The accolades identify and celebrate some of the region’s most successful businesses which bring prosperity to the Yorkshire region. The award winners show sustained growth in tough times through innovation, efficiency and skills.
The Body Doctor company was founded in 2012 by entrepreneur Sue Grant and her two sons, Adam and Sam Wymer. The vision of the business was, and continues to be, to devise, develop and supply innovative solutions that focus on promoting and optimising eye health.
The family-run business won the Queen’s Award for Innovation in 2016. The Huddersfield-based company has grown significantly since then and now includes other ingenious products, such as a reusable anti-bacterial AB Mask.
Executive Partner at Ward Hadaway’s Leeds office, Emma Digby, said: “Congratulations to The Body Doctor and every company in the Ward Hadaway Yorkshire Fastest 50 for 2022 for their tremendous achievements.
“Across a range of sectors, we are seeing regional businesses succeeding through tenacity, determination and a desire to succeed. They show no fear in the face of adversity and are prepared to change, adapt and rise to the challenge, whatever that may be.
“This year’s Fastest 50 list, as always, boasts many management teams with an unwavering passion to succeed who have created high growth, profitable businesses. It’s this spirit, and the business success that it creates, that we are delighted to celebrate.”
The Body Doctor’s Managing Director, Sue Grant, commented: “For me, this award is recognition of the company’s core value of always having the patient’s needs at the forefront of our minds. It shows an appreciation for a company that is progressive, innovative and constantly developing new products. However, this success is only possible due to the contribution and efforts of our dedicated team, which we are so proud of.
“This award is great recognition of a company that is constantly striving to achieving excellence, even during the recent challenging times. We are focused on developing and offering quality products that are affordable and aimed at improving the health of the nation’s eyes,” she concluded.
Backed by science and supported by experts in the medical field, including TV’s Dr Hilary Jones, The Body Doctor company aims to raise awareness of eyecare and especially eye hygiene by delivering preventative solutions and treatments for common eye problems.
The company achieved a major milestone in the spring of 2021 when a patent was granted for the antibacterial shield Sterileyes, an integral component of Eye Doctor hot and cold compresses which are recommended to treat evaporative dry eye, Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and blepharitis.
The Sterileyes solution is clinically proven to reduce bacteria by 99.9% and is bound to the fibres of the fabrics in the compress. The granting of the patent followed five years of research and development with three independent laboratories and was a major milestone for the company.
