Company Encourages Employees to Take Part in Litter Pick Initiative

As part of an ongoing commitment to sustainability, CooperVision employees, customers, friends and family recently took part in a company-organised litter pick to clear their local area of rubbish.

Coopervision Beach Clean,

The event supported Global Recycling Day 2022 (Friday 18th March), a day created to help recognise and celebrate the importance recycling plays in preserving primary resources and securing the future of our planet.

The coastal clean-up took place on Sunday 13th March 2022 in Warsash and saw nearly 50 volunteers of all ages, playing their part and contributing their free time to help keep their community clean. Participants collected an impressive 44 kilograms of waste, helping to make the beach a cleaner and safer place to be, for everyone.

As well as the coastal clean-up in Warsash, similar initiatives took place in a number of locations across the UK and Ireland, including Langland Bay in Swansea, Wales and Killiney Beach and Seapoint Beach in County Dublin, Ireland, with many volunteers sharing their experiences on social media using the hashtag #CVIcleanup.

CooperVision recently announced that all its one-day contact lenses distributed in the United Kingdom (UK) and Ireland are now plastic neutral,1,2 an initiative made possible through its global partnership with Plastic Bank®, whereby CooperVision purchases credits that fund the collection, processing, and reuse of ocean-bound plastic waste that is equal to the weight of the plastic used in its one-day contact lenses, the blister and the outer carton packaging.2

Whilst the partnership with Plastic Bank helps build ethical recycling ecosystems in underserved communities in Brazil, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Egypt, the litter pick has an impact much closer to home and is a clear demonstration of how the company is supporting environmentally conscious action at both a global and local level.

“Our litter pick initiative is a chance for colleagues, customers, friends and family to have a positive impact on their local environment. These events are an important part of CooperVision’s wider sustainability approach and particularly our plastic neutral initiative in the UK & Ireland,” said Doug Bairner, Country Manager UK & Ireland at CooperVision. “It was great to see so many people pulling together and doing their bit to make their local area a cleaner place to live. The volunteers really made a difference – one piece of rubbish at a time – whilst also having some fun and fresh air.”
